1875 Brightest and Best Song book- 1st Publication of "To God Be the Glory"
What is so neat about this hymnal is that it contains the first publication of the famous hymn, "To God Be the Glory". The hymn's lyrics are by Fanny Crosby and tune by William Howard Doane. The song appears to have been written around 1872 but was first published in 1875 in Lowry and Doane's song collection, "Brightest and Best" hymn 118.
Brightest and Best - A choice collection of New Songs, Duets Choruses, Invocation and Benediction Hymns for Sunday School and Meetings of Prayer and Praise by Rev. Robert Lowry and W. Howard Doane, 1875.
